President 2021 : Wendong Xu
Wendong Xu, MD, PhD, is a professor and doctoral tutor at Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. He is currently the vice president of Huashan Hospital, deputy director of the Hand Surgery department, the president of Jing'an District Central Hospital, and the president of Chinese Society for Surgery of the Hand (CSSH).
He completed his undergraduate and medical training in Shanghai Medical School, Fudan University. He studied the mechanism of neural regeneration during his postdoctoral study in the department of biology of Fudan University. He has been visiting fellows in famous medical centers of many countries and regions, including South Korea, Australia and Hong Kong.
Prof. Xu is in the editorial boards of "Annals of Plastic Surgery", "Journal of Wrist Surgery", "Chinese Journal of Hand Surgery” and "Chinese Journal of Microsurgery". He is the member of executive committees of Asia Pacific Wrist Association (APWA) and European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS). He is the PI of National Clinical Research Center for Aging and Medicine, Priority among Priorities of Shanghai Municipal Clinical Medicine Center, State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology Collaborative Innovation Center of Brain Science Fudan University, and Key Laboratory of Neurogeneration of Nantong University.
Prof. Xu has led his team and made a number of breakthrough work and innovations in the fields of peripheral nerve repair, brain function remodeling, and treatment of wrist joint diseases. As Project Leader, Prof. Xu hosts a number of research funds issues by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Science and Technology Commission. He is the corresponding author of over 60 original articles, which were published on prestigious international Journals of hand surgery, neurosurgery, neuroscience and et al. He has four national Invention Patents and ten Utility model Patents. Recently, his research, clinical Trial of Contralateral Seventh Cervical Nerve Transfer for Spastic Arm Paralysis, was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which was listed in the Notable Articles of 2018 by the journal.
His team has been awarded the national science and technology progress award, Shanghai science and technology progress award, the Chinese medical science and technology award, and et al. Prof. Xu has been awarded "Shanghai silver snake award ", "Shanghai municipal science and technology star", " Shanghai Ten outstanding youths ", “Young medical award from Shu sen and Lan Juan academician talent foundation”, “Grand Challenges 2015 - Young Scientists from Bill and Melinda Gates foundation”, and many other honorary titles.
